Ethical hacking is a growing field that has seen a surge in demand in recent years. With the increasing number of cyber attacks and data breaches, companies are eager to invest in the skills and expertise of ethical hackers to secure their networks and systems. However, getting into this field requires a specific set of skills and education. In this blog post, we will take a look at the educational path for becoming an ethical hacker, including the skills required, certification programs, and the importance of hands-on experience. Whether you're considering a career change or just starting out in the field, this article will give you a comprehensive overview of what you need to know to become an ethical hacker.
So, the very first and basic educational qualification should be completing your 10th or Matriculation obviously.
Which Stream To Choose After 10th ?
One of the many questions I oftenly get asked is "I have Completed 10th, Now which stream should I choose To Become Ethical Hacker". Should it be Science, Commerce or Arts ? Well, the answer is quite simple.
You can choose any stream you like in order to pursue Ethical Hacking as a Career, except Biology(Medical Stream). Some people say that you must take Science or Maths if you want to be a Hacker but that's not true. Maths or Science is only required on the basis on Course you want to pursue in College. But you can choose any stream you like to become Ethical Hacker. But in the free time, make sure to learn about the basics or foundation of computer, programming, networking and different technologies to see if you actually want to pursue this as a career.
Now, after 12th, the next Question is What Course you should pursue in College. So, Here's the answer to that:
Which Course To Take in College ?
Well, same as choosing streams in 12th, there is no specific Course that you must take to become a Ethical Hacker. You can be a Hacker even if you are from a Designing Background or something else. BUT having a Technical Background (course like B.Tech, BCA, MCA) is a plus factor as it gives to an edge over the other people who are not from a technical or computer field.
Some of the computer or technical fields that you can opt for are mentioned below:
> B.Tech CSE: Bachelor's degree in Technology Computer Science, this is one of the most popular degree in India and other Countries as many people choose this degree after intermediate. To pursue this degree, you must have Science (PCM - Physics, Chemistry and MATHS) in your 12th. Having this degree is really good in your CV if you are trying to get a Job in CyberSecurity field.
> BCA/MCA: Bachelors/Masters of Computer Application. These are popular computer science-related degrees offered in India.
BCA is an undergraduate degree program that provides students with a foundation in computer applications and prepares them for careers in the IT industry. It typically takes three years to complete and covers subjects such as programming, database management, and web development.
MCA is a postgraduate degree program that focuses on advanced topics in computer science and prepares students for leadership roles in the IT industry. It typically takes two years to complete and covers subjects such as software engineering, data analytics, and computer networks.
> B.SC/M.SC Computer Science: Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Science and Master of Science (MSc) in Computer Science are academic degrees in the field of computer science. BSc is typically a three-year undergraduate program that provides students with a foundation in computer science and programming. MSc is a two-year graduate program that offers students an opportunity to specialize in a specific area of computer science and perform advanced research. These degrees prepare students for careers in areas such as software development, cyber security, data analysis, and computer systems administration.
No matter what course you take in college, make sure to focus on learning Cybersecurity from online resources. I recommend you to take admission in a college where you don't have to attend regular classes so that you can focus on your cybersecurity studies. College Degree is not enough to secure a job in Cybersecurity field in a Country like India or any other country. So, You should try to get certified in cybersecurity with some of the below mentioned Certifications:
Cyber Security Certifications To Get Job:
There are several certifications that are well-respected in the cybersecurity industry and can help you secure a job in this field. Some of the most popular and recognized certifications include:
> Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
> CompTIA Security+
> Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
> GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC)
> Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT)
> Certified Cyber Forensics Professional (CCFP)
> Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
> Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP)
It's important to note that certifications alone do not guarantee a job in cybersecurity, but they demonstrate a certain level of knowledge and skills in the field to potential employers. Additionally, hands-on experience and ongoing learning and development are also crucial components to success in the cybersecurity industry.
Conclusion:
In this blog post, I have tried to answer all the common questions that beginners have in their mind by providing a structural educational path to follow but there is something you must keep in mind that cybersecurity is a field where your Degrees, Certifications or Marks doesn't matter much, the only thing that matters are your Skills, So make sure to focus on your skill building.
